NHL Lockout Bad For Business

Well it looks all but certain now that the NHL owners will be locking out the players in three days!  There are just way too many issues on the table to resolve between the NHL Ownership group and the NHL Player's Association.

What does this mean for our NHL business here at VIP Seats? Can you say cash crunch?!

VIP Seats is heavily invested in the NHL.  We own a significant number of season tickets across many different NHL markets including the NY Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, NJ Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Many of the teams have collected our season ticket payments in full!  With the NHL talks turning pessimistic, fans are not buying tickets as a number of games, if not the entire season schedule, is in jeopardy of being canceled.  So VIP Seats is stuck between a rock and a hard place.  We had to make a choice. if we didn't make the season ticket payments, the NHL teams were threatening to cancel our season tickets!  So we made our payments and now almost a million dollars of our capital is being held hostage until millionaires and billionaires argue over how to split up 3.3 billion of revenues.  Do I sound bitter?  Well I am!

I believe the NHL Fans need to band together to demand representation at the table of these NHL negotiations.  How about an NHL Fan Association?!  If I were elected NHLFA President, I would demand the following:

1.  All season ticket payments shall be refunded immediately on September 15th if there is a lockout.
2.  Unlawful for NHL teams to cancel season tickets due to non-payment if there is a lockout.

If the NHLFA were successful in their demands, I think the chances of lockouts in any league would be a thing of the past.
